Our Story

At Little Fires Co., our mission is to ignite joy through the vibrant illustrations of unique expressions from cultures around the world.

As Asian-American kids, we often felt out of place growing up. Over the years, we came to cherish how our multicultural upbringing has opened up the world for us.

Today, illustrating quirky and wise sayings is our way of giving curious explorers a way to travel to new cultures.

We love how sayings across the world have a shared humanity. They show us that we all share common hopes, fears and dreams – no matter where we're from or what language we speak.

I started translating and illustrating Chinese sayings back in 2015 when I found a book on Chinese sayings among my mom’s belongings after her passing.

What started as a personal project of simply wanting to feel close to my mom and roots morphed into a desire to help others explore, connect, and learn.

My sincerest hope—whether you’re a curious explorer, heritage speaker, or someone who defies categorization—is that Little Fires Co. can act as a window onto unfamiliar and exciting landscapes for you.

Ever since I was a kid, I would turn to the world’s simplest tools to cut through the chaos of life — a pencil and a piece of paper.

Years later, I’ve come to love how illustration and writing are powerful ways to truly see the world around us. United, the two can help you understand other cultures, connect with others, and shine a light on your own story.

For me, the way we bring to life sayings and expressions at Little Fires Co. is exactly that — a wonderful way to begin a conversation with the world, and with the person next to you.
